“I was a long-time Pact Coffee subscriber... then I came across Sam at a market. The beans were miles ahead of the coffee I had been using. Needless to say I switched to Rise & Grind... Highly recommend Rise & Grind!

What is EA Sugarcane Decaf?

This coffee is decaffeinated using the Ethyl Acetate (EA) Sugarcane method, a natural process that uses a compound derived from fermented sugarcane to remove caffeine. Unlike traditional chemical decaf methods, EA preserves the coffee’s vibrant flavours and sweetness—making it one of the cleanest and most flavour-preserving decaf options available.

The process happens at origin in Colombia, ensuring fresher green coffee post-decaf and greater value retention for producers like Jairo.

Farmer Spotlight: Jairo Arcila

Jairo Arcila is not your average coffee farmer—he’s a visionary pushing the boundaries of what decaf coffee can be. A third-generation grower based in Colombia’s famed Quindío region, Jairo’s deep-rooted passion for quality is matched by his bold experimentation with processing techniques. Alongside his sons—Jairo is reshaping the narrative around decaf.

This particular lot was naturally processed, with ripe cherries hand-picked and sun-dried on raised beds under carefully monitored conditions.

The result? A fruit-forward, complex cup before it even goes near the decaffeination plant.

Product description

Jairo Arcila – EA Sugarcane Decaf

Natural Process | Cherry · Chocolate · Passionfruit
Quindío, Colombia

Decaf doesn’t have to be dull. In fact, this coffee proves it can be anything but.

Grown by visionary producer Jairo Arcila, this natural processed decaf is a bold statement: you don’t need caffeine to enjoy a vibrant, flavour-packed cup. Jairo is a third-generation coffee farmer from Quindío, Colombia, and a pioneer in elevating the reputation of decaf by processing high-scoring microlots using the EA Sugarcane method.

Expect a cup bursting with juicy cherry, silky chocolate, and a tangy edge of passionfruit—a combination rarely found in decaf. These flavours are preserved thanks to meticulous processing: ripe cherries are hand-picked and sun-dried on raised beds under controlled conditions, locking in sweetness and fruit complexity before being gently decaffeinated at origin.

The Ethyl Acetate (EA) Sugarcane method, derived from locally sourced sugarcane, removes caffeine without stripping the coffee of its character. The result? A sweet, fruit-forward experience that holds its own against any caffeinated cup.

So if you think decaf means compromise—don’t settle. This is decaf for coffee lovers.

Good but needs more of a kick

The coffee was good, but needs that bit extra kick to make it really good.

Decaf

It us a lovely smooth coffee. I would however like a stronger taste. Not sure if I mean a darker roast.
